Did you know the spam musubi was invented by a lady from Kauai in 1983? Barbara Funamura created the first triangle-shaped rice musubi with spam because she said it combined two island favorites: spam and rice. Later, the shape was changed to the rectangular shape that we know and love today. (source: The Garden Island)
In Hawaii, we consume 5 million pounds of spam a year which is more than any place in the world. But slowly, the world is catching on to our iconic handheld fast food. Food trucks and island celebrity chefs are spreading the taste of this local favorite.
Are you a Musubi Monster?
We may be artists, but we're certainly not starving. Thanks to our wonderful family and friends, we are always taken care of when we're at craft fairs and events. We're so grateful for all of our foodie friendships that we have.
Last weekend while at Comic Con Honolulu, we've received fluffy pancakes from Liliha Bakery delivered right to our booth from our customer and friend, Tiffany.
We've received every delicious treat you can think of. From personalized manapua, hot coffee, and popcorn to homemade peanut butter balls!
Thank you to all for the sweet treats and thoughtfulness throughout the years. We love you all.
